Online Analytical Processing (OLAP)

Real time data analysis systems based on multi-dimensional views.

Multi-dimensional views are called cubes or hypercubes, and enable complex analyses of data in constant time. OLAP systems can generate crossed tables on very large databases, for example allowing rapid analysis of sales, expenditure or performance data, and geared to reflecting varying conditioning criteria such as the weather, a given territory, a particular product….

OLAP systems are used to deploy datawarehouses in which data is represented in a web format, with a central table summarizing the facts being analysed, and satellite tables containing data specific to the various dimensions being studied.
